Buenos Aires, Te Amo

We loved Buenos Aires so much it’s hard to know what to write about it, so I’ll keep it brief and let the photos tell the story.

The first of our two stints there consisted of 5 days hanging out in San Telmo, catching up with friends, watching Argentina’s defeat in the FWC final from Plaza San Martin, visiting La Boca neighbourhood, traipsing out to the gorgeous Recoletta Cemetery, eating steak dinners and generally soaking up the awesomeness.

We then headed through to Uruguay for a few days; to cute little Colonia de Sacramento, to Montevideo (which was like a mini BA, also beautiful and with a cool vibe but a bit less going on) and one wasted day in Punta del Este where it rained so hard and so long we just gave up and headed straight back to Montevideo.

It was really the wrong time of year to visit Uruguay as, other than the elegant capital Montevideo, most of its appeal lies in the gorgeous beaches and surf breaks. Despite being off-off season, we still really liked Uruguay, for no reason we could put a finger on, but decided there wasn’t much point sticking around with such bad weather so we jumped on the ferry and went back to Buenos Aires instead.

Second time around in BA we wanted to enrol for a week or so of intensive Spanish lessons, as our lack of Spanish had really been starting to bother us. Unfortunately the school we approached never replied to our emails and after waiting several days to hear back, we decided to move on and re-address the idea further down the line. In the meantime we mooched around a few art galleries and museums, sought out several excellent craft beer bars, visited the Sunday gaucho market (Feria de Mataderos) and La Bomba de Tiempo; a weekly percussion performance at a cool open air function centre, hunted down BA’s best burgers in at Burger Joint, Palermo, ate more steak dinners and generally fell even more in love with the city.

Say something interesting...
